The annual video game convention E3 is underway, which means lots of breaking news about upcoming titles will be released by the developers themselves. On the list of exciting new releases is Mortal Kombat 10, the long anticipated sequel to the successful fighting game franchise. A slew of information has been shared with the public about Mortal Kombat 10 straight from the mouth of head developer Ed Boon.

Most importantly, we now have a release date. Mortal Kombat 10 will be released in 2015, according to the Epoch Times . The game will be developed by NetherRealm Games, a company made from the remains of Midway and WB Games.

According to Cinema Blend , Mortal Kombat 10 will run in 1080p and at 60 frames per second when played on the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4. On June 6, Ed Boon tweeted that Mortal Kombat 10 will be developed “using our highly self-customized version of Unreal 3. 60fps 1080p!”

In a recent press release , Boon said of the game:

“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet. The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.”

The press release also featured the following description of the new Mortal Kombat title:

“Mortal Kombat X combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy. For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.”

Mortal Kombat 10 will also be released for the PC, XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, but with lower definition.

Gamespot.com revealed that E3 will provide many more details about Mortal Kombat 10 as the convention goes on, including the identities of two new Mortal Kombat characters. The storyline of the game will also be publicized soon, hopefully along with a trailer showing the actual gameplay.
