A police dashcam captured a dramatic rescue in the middle of Interstate 35, in Iowa. What this cop though was a violent argument inside the stalled vehicle was anything but.
The dramatic footage shows the moment in which a state trooper Tracy Bohlen sees the truck stop in the middle of a very busy I-35 in Iowa and darts from his patrol car to see what’s going on. As he approaches, he can spot two people inside the truck and they seem to be arguing, but all is not as it appears.
The dashcam rescue is just about to happen as Bohlen approaches the passenger side front door and hears a young man, only 15-years-old screaming that his dad is having a heart attack. You can hear the kid telling the state trooper his dad needs help.
Next, the dashcam rescue footage shows the quick thinking state trooper taking the dad out of the vehicle, placing him on the middle of the highway, and beginning chest compressions. Other passersby are also seen rushing to the scene to help the dad. Bohlen is heard screaming the man’s name, Patrick as he desperately tries to bring his pulse back.
“I have CPR in progress,” Bohlen says as he keeps working on the man and repeatedly calls out his name.
Finally, after about a minute, Patrick begins to breathe on his own again, but his son won’t soon forget what nearly happened to his dad. After his dad is stabilized the teen, named Eli, is heard sobbing on the dashcam video.
Nurse Jane McCurdy, one of those who came to see if they could help, is seen comforting the boy and taking him to her car, while they waited for paramedics to arrive. She took Eli to Mercy Medical Center and waited with him until the rest of the family arrived from Oklahoma. She even went to the pharmacy and helped them settle into a nearby hotel.
“For someone to take their whole day, just for a stranger…that’s who we are…that’s Iowa.” trooper Bohlen said of McCurdy’s selfless actions that day, according to KCCI 8 News .
In addition to McCurdy, another good Samaritan is seen on the dashcam video taking care of the stalled truck and bringing it to the hospital for the family. An all around effort of good will for a complete stranger, who according to doctors had some kind of heart related seizure while driving on I-35.
