Clarence Blackmon , the elderly cancer patient who recently made headlines after having to dial 911 to get food, now has enough food to help feed others.
Since his story broke yesterday, Blackmon has received tons of calls asking how and where people can help him. The local officials and 911 have even received calls from concerned neighbors.
What many people are wondering is, how did Blackmon end up in his predicament? Where was his family? Where was social services? According to ABC News , the Department of Social Services was never notified that he was returning home from the hospital where he had been receiving treatment and rehabilitation after his cancer diagnosis. Apparently, the private rehab facility that discharged Blackmon failed to notify anyone that he would leave the facility.
DSS workers have since visited Blackmon, staying for several hours, making sure that he has everything he needs. As for the extensive amount of food he received, Blackmon said he sent it to the Salvation Army to help others who are hungry.
“At least they can go by Salvation Army. They may have to listen to a sermon, but they get some food,” Blackmon told reporters.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Blackmon made his heartbreaking 911 call on Thursday, May 14, pleading for someone to bring him some food.
“What I need is someone to go the grocery store and bring me some food because I need to eat something,” he told the 911 operator Marilyn Hinson. “Whatever you can do to help. I can’t do anything. I can’t go anywhere. I can’t get out of my … chair.”
Hinson, with her supervisor’s permission and the help of police, personally brought him some groceries. His request was simple : he wanted a head of cabbage, some cans of beans and beets, some popcorn, tomato juice, and soft drinks, according to ABC11 .
“He was hungry,” Hinson said. “I’ve been hungry. A lot of people can’t say that, but I can, and I can’t stand for anyone to be hungry.”
She made Blackmon a sandwich, which he referred to as a “feast,” and then made him several more for later on.
