Charlize Theron recently opened up about fiancé Sean Penn in an interview with Elle UK for their June issue, most notably about working together on the upcoming film, The Last Face . The 39-year-old Mad Max: Fury Road actress and Penn, 54, have been friends for the last twenty years, but their friendship didn’t develop into a romance until 2014. Since the two have become a couple, Sean has referred to Charlize as the “love of my life” and Theron has now said the same.
Last month, Charlize told Esquire , “I think that for both of us there was never a moment where we thought that this — what we have today — would ever even be a possibility. Evereverever [sic].” Theron also mentioned both of them were “kind of shocked” at finding themselves where they are today. Charlize said she feels “very lucky” because “he’s hot.”
Now in her interview with Elle UK , Theron talked about the challenges the couple faced when working together on The Last Face , which Penn directed. Every couple faces ups and downs in their relationship, even celebrity couples, and more so when they work together. Making sure their relationship came first was their priority according to Charlize.
“Putting aside that he’s my partner, he’s the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life, and that made it hard. There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like… he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realize that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn are rumored to be getting married in August. If they do, their marriage will be Sean’s third and Charlize’s first.
Charlize also spoke to Elle UK about working towards equal pay in Hollywood, a topic that’s come up a lot lately, especially with the Sony email leak scandal. In negotiating equal pay for her role in the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel, Theron made headlines.
“I have to give them credit because once I asked, they said yes. They did not fight it. And maybe that’s the message — that we just need to put our foot down. This is a good time for us to bring this to a place of fairness, and girls need to know that being a feminist is a good thing. It doesn’t mean that you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way.”
