Ronda Rousey Vs. Gina Carano: Perhaps Dana White’s Worst Idea Ever

Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano is apparently much closer to happening today than it was a week ago.

And while it may seem like a no-brainer on the surface — after all, how many sports get a chance to put two pioneering legends up against one another — it is more realistically the worst idea that Dana White has ever had, at least from a sporting standpoint.

Let’s look at the facts.

Gina Carano’s last professional fight was a first round stoppage loss against Cris Cyborg Justino. Now granted, Justino has a history of abusing illegal substances for professional gain, and she may have been doing just that when she stopped Carano five years ago, but that doesn’t change the fact that Carano lost and then stopped fighting — for five years.

Now Dana White is optimistic that he can get Carano back in a UFC cage. He’s even implied that she would have an immediate shot at the UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

Meanwhile, Ronda Rousey has stayed busy plying her trade while also balancing a burgeoning Hollywood career. Recently, she even fought twice in a three-month span and killed it, ripping through the competition with very little challenge.

And Dana White has the nerve to think that a fighter with five years of ring rust is going to be able to compete with that, without taking any warmup fights.

Not since bringing in the unproven WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar and giving him a title shot in his fourth fight has the man [White] done something so blatantly P.T. Barnum.

And while Lesnar won the title in that fight, don’t kid yourselves. He was fighting an over-the-hill Randy Couture, who was custom-made for Lesnar at that point in his career.

Prior to that matchup, White made sure to protect Lesnar with his fight selection after his new acquisition lost a disastrous second fight in round two against Frank Mir at UFC 81 .

No one can argue with a straight face that Lesnar deserved that shot at the title, but he got it anyway. And now, White is doing it again, forsaking sporting merit for making a quick buck.

In the case of Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano, there’s only one way things end well for the original first lady of MMA — and that’s if Rousey throws the fight.

But for Ronda Rousey, she’s fought hard to earn her rep, and that’s unlikely to happen. As a result, what fans will get is a first round KO or submission in Rousey’s favor. In fact, if the fight got past the first minute, there would need to be an investigation.
