A baby found in rubble is alive, and is listed in stable condition.

According to KSL, the infant was found in the rubble of a building collapse in Nepal following a devastating earthquake. Authorities say that the baby was trapped for about 22 hours . Since the earthquake hit on April 25, rescue workers have been tirelessly trying to find survivors who may be stuck under debris and/or unable to be heard.

“The little boy, whose name is Sonit Awal, was reported to be in stable condition without any internal injuries, according to initial examinations,” reports CNN. The site also reported that a man was found alive in the area after being trapped for 80 hours .

The baby found in rubble wasn’t located right away. In fact, a search and rescue team had looked in the area earlier, and didn’t come across the child. It was during a second sweep that workers heard the boy crying. According to UPI, the child did not sustain any serious injuries , which is quite amazing. It is unknown where his parents are, or if they survived the earthquake. The baby boy is being cared for at a hospital in the area.

The magnitude-7.8 earthquake caused incredible devastation. Over 5,000 people have been confirmed dead, and that number is expected to grow (to double, even) as more bodies are pulled from rubble in the coming days.

Buildings have been collapsing almost every day since the strong quake due to aftershocks. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , 100 aftershocks have complicated search and rescue efforts.

“Due to the terrain of Nepal, combined with a complicated, sparse road network, it has been impossible for anyone to make assessments of the status of many of the Nepalese villages. Especially those around the epicenter (such as Lamjung, where the earthquake was centred).”

The baby found in the rubble is extremely lucky to be alive. The longer a person is trapped without food and water, the less likely of a chance they have to survive. Officials believe that the majority of the bodies they will find moving forward will be deceased, but all hope is not lost. Miracles like Sonit Awal do happen, and can still happen.

Nepal saw another earthquake back in 1934. A total of 10,000 people were killed in that disaster.
