David Albright, a U.S. non-proliferation expert on Tuesday announced that he has identified a building at the Parchin military site in Iran that contains what he believes is a high-explosive test chamber. That happens to be the same facility U.N. nuclear watchdogs want to visit.

Founder of the Institute for Science and International Security, Abright says he was able to pinpoint the location through the use of commercial satellite imagery.

The building features its own perimeter security wall and there has reportedly been built with a berm between the building and a neighboring facility.

In 2005 the IAEA visited several facilities at Parchin however the building now in question was refused access by the Iranian government. It’s believed that the government is refusing access to the building in order to sanitize the facility of any incriminating evidence that would prove explosive tests were conducted at the location.

According to IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano:

“We have information that some activity is ongoing there.”

The IAEA says the test chamber was placed at Parchin in 2000 and that a building was then built around it.

According to various organizations the chamber was used for nuclear weapons testing in the early years following 2000.

In the meantime the discovery will likely only further degrade Iran’s relationship with Israel, the United States and other surrounding allies who are worried about the countries continued isolationism when it comes to discussing nuclear weapons programs.

Do you think Iran is leading itself closer to war by constantly concealing its nuclear ambitions from the rest of the world?
