Bobbi Kristina is breathing on her own, but her prognosis has not changed. According to Fox News , the Houston family has confirmed that the 22-year-old daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston does not need a machine to help her breathe. Doctors told the family that her trach is still needed , but that she has regained the ability to breathe.

For those who don’t know, a trach or a Tracheostomy is a surgically implanted hole in a person’s throat/windpipe (trachea). According to the Mayo Clinic , the name for this procedure is a tracheotomy . Reports indicate that doctors performed this procedure on Bobbi Kristina soon after she was admitted to the hospital on Jan. 31.

“A tracheostomy provides an air passage to help you breathe when the usual route for breathing is somehow obstructed or impaired. A tracheostomy is often needed when health problems require long-term use of a machine (ventilator) to help you breathe.”

Bobbi Kristina breathing on her own is a good sign, but it doesn’t change what is actually going on with her. There are several rumors out there that suggest that Bobbi Kris is coming to. As evidenced by Celebrity Dirty Laundry , there are conflicting reports that seem to suggest that Bobbi is going to be okay . However, it has been confirmed that she suffered severe brain damage that is “irreversible.” While Bobby Brown continues to say that his daughter is showing signs of improvement, Bobbi Kris doesn’t have the best future ahead of her, and most people seem to realize that now.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Bobbi’s grandmother, Cissy Houston , updated the media over the weekend, speaking with TMZ about the rumors (which were actually caused by Bobby Brown himself when he decided to tell people that his little girl was “awake”).

“Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me. I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive. We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time. Keep us in your prayers.”

Bobbi Kristina was found not breathing, face down in the bathtub of her home in Georgia. Many believe that she tried to recreate her mother’s death.
