With all of the multiple births reported in the news, the U.S. saw its first all-girl quintuplets born in Houston, Texas last week. This is also the first all-girl quintuplets born in the world since 1969.
The set of five girls was born at Woman’s Hospital of Texas to Danielle and Adam Busby; they already have a 3-year-old daughter, Blayke.
According to the report, the Busbys used fertility treatments. ABC News reports that all five girls born to Danielle and Adam Busby were at a healthy weight range for their “gestational age.” This is credited to Danielle taking such good care of herself during her pregnancy, so the infants would most likely be healthy.
Danielle and Adam named their girls Olivia Marie, Ava Lane, Hazel Grace, Parker Kate, and Riley Paige.
Dr. Jayne Finkowski-Rivera, the hospital’s medical director who assisted in the delivery, said the babies are off to a great start due to their health.
“They have made a strong start in life, and we are excited to watch them grow and mature,” Finkowski-Rivera says.
Parents of the first all-girl quintuplets posted a video on their blog, It’s a Buzz World , so they could update everyone on what it’s been like at home raising the babies. The couple admits they’re a bit overwhelmed and have lost track of time, as any parents would having a band of five babies born at once!
“As they mature a little bit, they all have their own little quirks. Their personalities are starting to shine through,” Adam Busby says. He talked about each of the girls’ quirks and how they have distinct personalities.
The couple had set up a GoFundMe page because they’ve had so many doctor bills throughout the pregnancy. Some reached thousands of dollars, Fox 10 News reports.
“Every single week seemed like we were at the doctor’s office doing tests and just extremely stressful process,” Adam Busby said.
At first, just four embryos were seen in an ultrasound then one of them split, making the total come to five.
There were reportedly about a dozen medical personnel that assisted in the all-girl quintuplets’ birth. Several teams had to help with the newborns’ care following the birth.
The Busbys have over $13,400 in donations of the $30,000 requested on GoFundMe. One of the big items they they need is a van big enough to accommodate their family.
Including their 3-year-old daughter and the first all-girl quintuplets born in the U.S., the Busbys now have six daughters.
