Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has stated that Liverpool is the only club that he would play for should he return to England. Suarez is currently enjoying life in Barcelona after scoring the winning goal against Real Madrid in the El Clasico derby.

Suarez spoke of his gratitude to Liverpool and their fans after a return to Anfield to play in a one off charity match on Sunday.

“You never know in football what the future holds but if I ever play in England again I will play for the Liverpool team and not another team. I’ve missed the fans. They know they are in my heart. The atmosphere is unbelievable, it’s amazing. Everyone who’s played for Liverpool knows how important the supporters are.”

Although often the center of controversy, Luis Suarez enjoyed three and a half seasons at Liverpool, winning the Capitol One during his spell at the club. Suarez paired up another controversial striker.

Fernando Torres was cheered for the first time by the Liverpool faithful since his controversial move to Chelsea. Torres and Suarez gave the crowd a display of what might have been had Liverpool decided to not sell the Spanish international just three days after buying Suarez.

“It was great for me to play up front alongside Fernando,” said Suarez.

“Four years ago when I signed for Liverpool, I crossed my fingers to play with Fernando and he left three days after I signed. It was a great day for the other players but for me and Fernando it was a great chance to play together.”

However, the pair, whom just missed on playing with one another, soaked up the atmosphere provided by the Liverpool fans.

“I wasn’t expecting them to sing the song,” Torres said .

“I still remember the great games we had here at Anfield in the Champions League, in the league and fighting for trophies. I have the song in my head, it was so important for me.Those three-and-a-half years changed my entire life and career. I remember the song from the Kop in important games. To hear that once again is something I will never, ever forget.”

Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres were among the elite set of players that turned out to play what was essentially Steven Gerrard’s testimonial match. Ex-Liverpool players such as Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina, Alvaro Arbeloa, John Arne Riise, Luis Garcia, and Jamie Carragher came out along with other elite players such as John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Thierry Henry.
