Rick Santorum is having one of those weeks where he is not able to express himself well. This time the Republican presidential candidate is clarifying remarks where he seemed to compare President Barack Obama to Hitler.
He compared the election to the build up to World War II saying,
“Remember, the greatest generation for a year and a half sat on the sidelines while Europe was under darkness. We’re a hopeful people. We think, ‘Well, you know, it’ll get better. Yeah, he’s a nice guy. I mean, it won’t be near as bad as what we think. This will be okay. I mean, yeah, maybe he’s not the best guy after a while, after a while you find out some things about this guy over in Europe who’s not so good of a guy after all…’”
On Monday, when asked, Santorum defended his remarks. He said,
“No, of course not. The World War II metaphor is one I’ve used 100 times in my career.”
Santorum has been on a tear this past week comparing Obama’s political agenda to a “bad theology: he was forced to go on camera and say he wasn’t questioning Obama’s faith.
He Said,
“I’ve repeatedly said I don’t question the president’s faith. I’ve repeatedly said that I believe the president’s Christian. I am talking about his world view, and the way he approaches problems in this country. I think they’re different than how most people do in America.”
His press secretary, Alice Stewart, did not help matters when she slipped up Monday on MSNBC and used the phrase “radical Islamic policies” to describe Obama’s environmental priorities.
She said she misspoke and apologized.
