Jeremy Lin is getting his own shoe. Nike is reportedly planning to cash in on the Linsanity that is sweeping the basketball nation by releasing a Jeremy Lin “Linsanity” edition Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 shoe.
Global CP reports that Lin is currently sponsored by Nike and typically wears plain white, blue, or black editions of the Hyperfuse 2011. The Linsanity edition will bear his name and will feature Knicks’ colors.
Lin, who was on the bench just two weeks ago, has led the New York Knicks to seven straight wins. Of course, several people say that Lin’s success is due to poor defense, shabby competition, and an overcrowded NBA schedule that has caused many teams to play fatigued. But that hasn’t stopped the Linsanity.
Even if Lin is a one season wonder his shoes, and any other merchandise, should be a big hit with New York Knicks’ fans. But Lin’s name, at the moment, doesn’t exactly fit in with the other NBA players who have their own shoes. Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade… Jeremy Lin?
Lin could, however, be on his way to great things. Lin set a record for most points scored in a player’s first 6 NBA starts. He dropped 38 points against the Los Angeles Lakers in Madison Square Garden, had a career high in assists (13) against the Sacramento Kings, and hit a game winning shot over the Toronto Raptors.
The Knicks are now back at .500 and could become a competitive team now that Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire are returning to the lineup.
