When a teen boy came out to his family and told them he was gay, his father didn’t take the news very well. He responded with “I’m going to puke” and said that his son’s coming out news was “worse than death.”
According to Daily Mail , 15-year-old Tyler, of Vancouver, thought it was time to come out to his family about his sexuality. The teen first told his sister and afterwards, he told his mother. He claims they both support him.
However, when Tyler came out to his father , the reaction was somewhat different – probably something he didn’t expect.
His father messaged him via Facebook and stated as follows.
“We took care of you since you were a baby. We loved you, took care of you when you’re sick. Lost many days and nights in all your fifteen years.”
“Now this is what we get in return, shame and embarrassment.”
“If only you didn’t reject God and His teachings in your life you could have been strong enough to stay from evil and scums that surrounds you. Stay away.”
“Take out your post from social media.”
“You embarrass me from all the people I knew.”
“I’m going to puke. Whatever you do it reflects on me. People will ridicule me, insult me, and I might turn out to be a criminal. I have enough of all this bulls***.”
“You are trying to ruin me. This is worse than death.”
After Tyler received the Facebook message from his father, he shared it on his Tumblr page for the world to see. Since posting his father’s reaction, Tyler has been getting a lot of support around the globe.
Puddlington commented via Tumblr.
“Mate, from the other side of the Atlantic, be proud of how you are born. Hope everything comes around with your dad.’
Katerina told Tyler that “Your father is ignorant and he needs some education on many matters, bc I suppose he is not so narrow minded only regarding this.”
Another user, Naithom, posted: ‘I’m so sorry for the way your dad’s handling the situation. Please surround yourself w/ people who love & care for you as you are.’
Marshall Moore sent Tyler a message that stated the following.
“Just read about your story. Different generation but I still get it. Stay strong and please don’t give up on yourself. Love wins.
“Every time I see a story like this, I foam at the mouth. The world should’ve moved on by now. Obviously it hasn’t.”
Goddess, who is an active user on Tumblr, called and stated “Just read about your story and I think you are very brave and I hope this makes you a stronger person.”
“You’re so brave, bud! What you’ve done has given you freedom! Many admire you,” another post read.
Tyler spoke with Huffington Post and stated that “I’m hoping there’s still the possibility that he could change, even if it takes a while. Maybe he could accept me, because that’s all I want… I just want him to be there for me.”
After Tyler’s coming out news, he stated that “I was so, so thankful that my mom supports me.”
