Bill O’Reilly ‘Saw’ Nuns Murdered: Did He Actually Need To Be There To See It?

Bill O’Reilly claims the murdered nuns story he told and claimed he witnessed makes sense and was true now just as it was then, except that people simply didn’t understand what he meant.

As the Inquisitr reported earlier, Bill O’Reilly has been in the hot seat for several suspicious stories he has reported, including the murdered nuns story. However, Fox News stands by its controversial man and blames “far left advocates” for apparently taking O’Reilly’s reports the wrong way.

Bill O’Reilly even admitted telling his own mother he witnessed nuns being shot and killed during a December broadcast of The O’Reilly Factor in 2012, according to KCCI.

“When I would tell her, hey, mom, I was in El Salvador and I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head, she almost couldn’t process it. She couldn’t process it, you know.”

Media Matters for America subsequently produced a report on Bill O’Reilly describing his accounts of the incident as “an apparent fabrication,” and called for action to be taken by Fox News to hold O’Reilly accountable. In the report, Media Matters specifically mentioned two separate times in which Bill O’Reilly claimed to have witnessed the murders of the nuns.

“O’Reilly has spoken on several occasions about his time covering the Salvadoran civil war as a CBS correspondent in 1981, suggesting at least twice that he witnessed the murder of the churchwomen. On the September 27, 2005, edition of his talk-radio program The Radio Factor , O’Reilly said, ‘I’ve seen guys gun down nuns in El Salvador.’ And on the December 14, 2012, edition of his Fox News show, O’Reilly spoke of telling his mother that ‘I was in El Salvador and I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head.’”

However, the outspoken host now claims he did not see the nuns actually get shot while being right there. Instead, he claims he saw a violent depiction of the Salvadoran civil war in images which “were never broadcast.” In 2009, Bill claims he arrived “right after” the nuns were killed.

O’Reilly had not actually been there in the war zone in 1980. Instead he was there in 1981, as he admitted on an episode of The O’Reilly Factor . Bill also made no mention of witnessing any killings in his memoir, A Bold, Fresh Piece of Humanity .

The only reason he brought up the nuns recently, O’Reilly now claims, is because of the Newtown murders on December 14, 2012.

“The mention of the nuns on my program came the day of the Newtown massacre. The segment was about evil and how hard it is for folks to comprehend it. I used the murdered nuns as an example of that evil. That’s what I am referring to when I say ‘I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head.’ No one could possibly take that segment as reporting on El Salvador.”

Bill O’Reilly may not even be sure what he remembers at this point, and that’s seemingly good enough for Fox News. Is it good enough for you, Inquisitr readers?
