Terrence Howard’s appearance confused some people, and it wasn’t because people were wondering what he was doing at the award ceremony. The confusion was more so related to Howard’s strangely emotional and wobbly disposition while talking about the Best Picture nominees.

His speech was filled with awkward pauses and misplaced passion as most people in the audience looked uncomfortable. The camera panned to J.K. Simmons as Howard gave an over the top passionate speech about the actor’s performance in Whiplash .

“How far would you go to find the greatness in themselves? Whiplash — this film about a young musician desperately trying to please his ruthless teacher is a thrilling symphony that is both — it’s mind-blowing.”

Howard took a moment to sigh emotionally and moved on before taking another pause. “Our next film is amazing. I’m blown away right now myself.”

Howard’s pause went on for way too long before speaking about The Imitation Game . Then he proceeded to bump into his mic right before the camera panned to The Imitation Game co-star, Keira Knightley.

“Our next nominee for Best Picture reveals how the visionary father of modern computing, Alan Turing, helps defeat the Nazis only to have his own greatness stripped away from him for his sexual orientation.”

As you might have guessed, the internet reacted appropriately to the bizarre speech despite Howard gaining a semblance of composure when introducing Selma .

If I learned anything from last night’s Oscars, it’s that Terrence Howard has a lot of feelings.

Did Terrence Howard get emotional because he thought he was introducing ‘Selma?’ That was painfully awkward to watch. #Oscars #AcademyAwards

While Howard’s speech didn’t hold a candle to the awkward moment between John Travolta and Idina Menzel, it’s still worth a watch.
