Last month Tiger Woods dropped out of the top 50. If he wins the Abu Dhabi Championship this week, he’ll break back into the top 10.

But winning the Abu Dhabi Championship will be a challenge as the world’s current top four golfers, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer, are all be competing this week.

Woods said:

“I’m very excited to get going. I’m looking forward to testing my game against a very strong field.”

Woods is currently ranked 25th thanks to his drought ending win at the Chevron World Challenge last month. It was Tiger’s first win in over two years. Woods said:

“It’s hard to believe it was that long. It was a nice way to end the season and hopefully I’ll win a few more in 2012.”

Woods has never played at the Abu Dhabi Championship, but the Daily Mail notes that he has won the Dubai Desert Classic twice. As last year’s event, however, Tiger finished 20th.

Tiger is still a long way away from the number one spot but the BBC notes that it’s possible for him to reclaim the title as early as April at the masters. Tiger has been ranked the number one golfer for a total of 623 weeks. Do you think Tiger Woods will ever reclaim the top spot?
