A San Diego sports anchor for CBS8 was shot Tuesday afternoon at his Scripps Ranch home. Kyle Kraska was shot in front of his home just after 3:30 p.m., CBS Los Angeles reports.
Kraska is the San Diego Sports Director for CBS8. Anchor Marcella Lee at the station tweeted that he was the victim of a shooting.
The sports anchor was transported to a Scripps La Jolla Hospital with an officer who went along; he described Kraska as being in an alert and responsive state. CBS8 released information that Kraska was shot in the leg and on the left side of his stomach. By Tuesday night Kraska was out of surgery and his prognosis is good.
A silver Mercedes was parked at the end of the home’s driveway with shattered glass around it from the rear window. A four-door van reportedly fled the scene, according to San Diego Police.
NBC News reports that the sports anchor was shot as he was pulling out of his driveway for work. A van pulled up, fired several shots at Kraska’s Mercedes, and drove off — this according to a neighbor in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood who witnessed the shooting.
Other neighbors reported hearing multiple shot fired. Authorities identified the shooting suspect as 54-year-old Mike Montana; he stands 6-feet-3-inches tall and weighs around 190 pounds. Montana was last seen driving a white minivan that has the words “Superior Painting” on both sides. Montana is considered armed and dangerous. 
The relationship between the San Diego sports anchor and Montana isn’t revealed.
A former neighbor of Montana’s shares his experiences with the shooting suspect, who used to illegally live in a storage unit. The neighbor recalls having run-ins with him.
“He left threatening voice mails on my son’s cell phone,” the former neighbor said. “Not direct threats, but talking about his guns and how good a marksman he is, so, insinuated threats. It got to the point where the girls in the office didn’t want to come to work. They were scared of him.”
It’s believed that Mike Montana was on some type of psychotic drug at the time.
Fortunately, Kyle Kraska is expected to recover from his injuries.
