‘Clash of Clans’ Super Bowl Spot Featuring Liam Neeson Was Most Watched Of Event

Clash of Clans is becoming ever more popular among mobile gamers. The best evidence of this is the fact that the Clash of Clans Super Bowl ad, which featured Liam Neeson. has just been announced as the most watched of the entire event. While it shouldn’t surprise anyone that a spot starring Liam Neeson was popular, the serious actor-turned-action star managed to pull in more eyes than some heart-tugging Budweiser ads as well as one that featured a nearly naked supermodel eating a cheeseburger. That little fact, added with the acknowledgment that the winning spot was for a mobile game, makes this a bit of a shock.

Of course, perhaps the ad being among the most popular simply means that sports fans also have a rather high contingent of gamers. Considering how much it cost to get ad time during the Super Bowl, then Clash of Clans developers likely feel as though it was money well spent. VentureBeat said that the game’s developers likely spent about $9 million for the 90 second spot. That might seem like a ton of cash, but the website also points out that mobile gaming raked in about $25 billion in 2014.

This means that not only was the ad well worth the money, but its popularity has likely helped Clash of Clans makers keep its spot as one of the most popular mobile games. According to Bleeding Cool , the video has just passed the 32 million hits mark on YouTube. That makes the Liam Neeson ad the first video in 2015 to pass the 30 million mark. The real question is whether or not the advertisement is this popular because of the game or because of the man they got to be their new pitchman. In the end, one has to wonder whether or not it really matters.

Advertising is all about getting an idea into someone’s head. Even if the popularity of Liam Neeson is more than that of Clash of Clans , people will now equate the two. While being the most watched is certainly something to brag about, the real victory on Super Bowl Sunday was that this advertisement beat out another mobile battle game known as Game of War . That game’s television spot featured a scantily clad Kate Upton, who has been their spokesmodel for a couple of months now. It appears that when talking about this medium, action star beats supermodel, and that’s nothing but good news for Clash of Clans .
