CBS News reports that Cissy Houston, mother of the late Whitney Houston, has arrived in Atlanta to be at the bedside of her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown. Brown was discovered unresponsive and face down in a bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia, home last Saturday. She remains in a medically induced coma at Emory University Hospital.
WGCL-TV reported Houston, 81, flew from her home in New Jersey to be with other loved ones of Bobbi Kristina as they make decisions regarding her medical care.
Almost three years ago, Cissy Houston lost her daughter, Whitney Houston. The singer was found dead in a bathtub in Beverly Hills.
Authorities said Whitney Houston had drowned and that heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors.
“Cissy was so traumatized losing Whitney and the pain is still raw from that,” a family source told Radar Online . “Watching Krissy in the hospital and in the coma is almost more than she can handle. This is almost too much sadness for her to bear.”
The circumstances surrounding the incident involving Bobbi Kristina are still unknown. Police have launched a criminal investigation of her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. Brown had unspecified injuries, and according to TMZ , had a history of violence during her relationship with Gordon. Police are investigating an altercation that may have occurred an hour before she was discovered in the bathroom by her friend, Max Lomas.
Lomas made a statement to the police, saying that he was waiting for the cable representative to show up at the residence with Nick and that Bobbi Kristina was in the bedroom. When the cable representative needed access to the bedroom, Lomas escorted him and discovered Brown in the bathtub. He yelled for help and Nick started CPR on Brown. Afterward, according to TMZ , Lomas said that Nick cleaned up the home, including removing blood stains. Both men have requested a lawyer.
The family of Bobbi Kristina Brown have requested privacy during this difficult time. There is speculation that the family may be discussing the termination of life support. Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina’s father, has been at her bedside and has declared that she “is not brain dead” and that there is hope for a divine intervention.
The anniversary of Whitney Houston’s death is February 11.
