When it comes to eating out these days, especially with a big family in tow, it can get expensive.

But when Aurel Lupsa, who had taken his family to enjoy some sumptuous Portuguese chicken at the Nando’s joint in London’s Brent Cross Shopping Centre, received his credit card transaction receipt, he had mistakenly been charged $9,300 instead of just $93!

While accidents do happen, there’s no excuse for charging someone thousands of dollars for a quick chicken dinner, and thankfully, a server spotted the mistake almost straight away.

As Mr. Lupsa, a telecoms director, told the Daily Mail , “I didn’t really notice I was overpaying, to be honest. It was a nice meal and everything was fine – just the sort of experience anybody would come to expect from a restaurant. Just as we were leaving, the server rushed over and said there had been a mistake – I couldn’t believe it when they said I overpaid by more than £6000 ($9,300.) I’m definitely going to pay more attention in the future.”

Lupsa added, “Thankfully, the mistake was spotted straight away, so I wasn’t left broke and penniless or anything like that. I can’t believe the most expensive meal of my life was at Nando’s. It’s good chicken, but it’s not that good,” he joked.

When Nando’s was contacted by the Mail , the restaurant in Brent Cross Shopping Centre declined to comment, although the mistake on Mr. Lupsa’s card was reversed immediately, and he and his family received an apology from their server.

The Lupsas aren’t the only people to have been mistakenly overcharged this Christmas. As reported also by the Mail , a Mr. Baker from Birmingham, UK, was accidentally charged a whopping $93,000 for some wrapping paper he bought at a Card Factory outlet.

As reported, an assistant at the Card Factory shop in Birmingham had accidentally arranged for £59,416 to come out of Mr. Baker’s account instead of £5.94, when he handed over his debit card and punched in his PIN without checking.

When the father of two complained his Christmas had been ruined as his account was frozen and he was unable to use his card to buy last-minute presents for daughters, he received a credit for the amount and an apology.
