A large metallic space ball recently fell from the sky over Namibia. Perplexed local authorities have contacted NASA and the European space agency with the hopes of determining the strange objects origins.

The AFP reports that the space ball has a circumference of 43 inches and is hollow. Authorities say that the ball appears to consist of two halves that were welded together. It is made of a “metal known to man” and weighs about 13 pounds. It was found about 500 miles from Namibia’s capital Windhoek.

According to the Telegraph, locals heard several explosions a few days before the ball was found.

The space ball left a 1 foot deep, 12 feet wide hole in the ground when it hit the remote grassland in Nambia. The ball was found about 50 feet away from the point of impact.

The ball was found in Mid-November, but authorities wanted to investigate the object before making the find public.

Police forensics director Paul Ludik, said:

“It is not an explosive device, but rather hollow, but we had to investigate all this first.”

According to the Telegraph, several space balls have reportedly fallen in southern Africa, Australia and Latin America over the last twenty years.

Do you think the space ball came from some alien spaceship? If you do, you’re about to be disappointed.

Discovery reports that the space ball is most likely a “Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel” (or COPV for short). The COPV did fall from space, but it’s just an exotic man made object.

NASA and the ESA haven’t commented on the space ball yet. But if you’re looking for alien proof, this isn’t it.
