Somebody at the United States Postal Service is getting coal in their stocking. A Washington mail carrier has been told to stop wearing a Santa Claus outfit while on his delivery route, after a colleague complained about the outfit.
Bob McLean has dressed as Santa (the beard is his own) while delivering mail for many years. Until now, the mail service had been happy to let McLean do his rounds as the big man of Christmas. However, a recent complaint from a colleague suggests not everybody is down with dressing up. A USPS spokesman told Fox News:
“He had been doing this for some time and there had not been an issue and a couple of weeks ago one of his fellow carriers raised the issue with management. ‘The postmaster acknowledges that until one of his fellow carriers made an issue out of it he was okay with it.”
For his part, McLean sounds understandably peeved. He bellowed to the Bellevue Reporter :
“The government is shutting me down because it’s a non-postal regulation uniform. This was the first time, I don’t know what happened. I don’t step on anyone’s toes. Being Santa isn’t religious to me; it’s secular. It’s about giving.”
Pleasingly, Bob ain’t taking this crap – instead, he’s still doing his route in the St. Nick outfit, defying his bosses. Isn’t he worried he’ll lose his job over this?
“I mean it’s possible. But I don’t think they’re going to win.”
‘Atta guy. I despise Christmas, but even I’m Team Bob.
