Don’t Buy That Yet! Items Experts Say Will Drop In Price In 2015

For many people, the day after Christmas is almost as big of a shopping day as Black Friday — but according to experts, there are a number of items that will be so much more affordable in 2015 that they are advising shoppers, “Don’t buy that yet!”

It’s hard, considering the number of massive sales retailers hold after Christmas in order to entice shoppers who already feel as though their wallets may be empty, but here is the list of items that experts agree should be bought in 2015 rather than now.

14K TVs, the television that offers a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution and are considered the “next big thing” in TVs, are the first item on the list. These televisions range in price from $375 to $1,300, which is already a pretty steep decline from their 2013 prices of $5,000 to $7,000. According to experts, this item has become so popular that their very popularity will cause yet another drop in price in 2015. As an added bonus for 4K TV owners, Amazon now streams limited content at no additional charge to Prime members, and Netflix offers more 4K content for $3 more a month.

Smartphones are another item on the list of things to wait until 2015 to purchase. It’s projected that by the end of 2015, LTE smartphones will be as cheap as $60. Whereas the popularity of 4K TVs will cause those prices to drop, the opposite holds true for the smartphone, with the price drop of this item due to the fact that the global growth of smartphone sales has been slowing, according to the International Data Corporation . Also, those who are shopping for smartphones for under $200 will be getting more bang for their buck, including HD screens.

Smartwatches are the third item on the list. The Apple Watch is expected to debut in early 2015 with a price tag of $349 in a market that is eagerly anticipating them — in fact, 10 percent of consumers report that they are considering the purchase. But if you can wait just a little longer, technology research firm Gartner predicts that, because smartwatches will make up to 40 percent of all wrist-worn devices by 2016, the increased demand for the item will cause some manufacturers to drop prices to below $150, with some smartwatches selling as cheaply as just $30 by the end of 2015.

Tech gear such as GPS devices and software will also see a price drop in 2015, since, in an agreement with China, the White House has eliminated more than 200 tariffs from Chinese-made products that have, in the past, added 25 percent to the cost of such items. Other items that may also see a significant price drop because of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit negotiations include medical equipment and video game consoles, as well. There may even be a lower price on Apple products manufactured in China come 2015.

Items expected to take a price plunge in 2015 aren’t just limited to tech gear, though. Butter and cranberries made the list as well. Price of butter per pound has nearly doubled in the past, but a decrease in price is expected on all dairy items, and a cranberry production excess has led to dropping prices on that particular brand of produce.

And, happily, it is predicted that gas prices in the U.S. will continue to lower. According to the Energy Information Administration, gas prices will average at about $2.60 per gallon nationwide, with some states’ gas prices even falling below $2 a gallon.

What do you think? Were you in the market for any of these items, and will expert predictions on falling prices cause you to wait and see? Let us know!
