Victoria’s Secret models are being criticized by some for being too beautiful while others are criticizing them for not being beautiful enough.
Hannah Gray at Red & Black criticized Victoria’s Secret models for presenting “an unattainable concept of beauty.”
“The 47 women who strutted down that runway in underwear sets are not representative of women as a gender. They are the anomaly and not the status quo. But when those women are treated like inspirational heroes worthy of admiration and reverence just because of they way their bodies look, it is a direct representation of the decay characteristic of our society. Those select women owe most of their success to their appearance, and while there is nothing wrong with that, it is discouraging how much attention and awe they are awarded.”
Meanwhile, Seth Stevenson at Fashionista wrote of what he thought of the highly visible models after he attended the annual Victoria’s Secret London fashion show.
“Secondly, many models, up close, are not actually hot. I know that sounds crazy. But in person, a lot of the VS models were more freakish than sexy. [ Ed. note: We’ll have to agree to disagree on this one, Seth. ] I am an average-sized fellow, so they all loomed over me in an intimidating fashion. Their limbs were like toothpicks, seemingly in danger of snapping at any given moment. They moved like gangly baby horses that were too leggy for their own bodies. And while some of these ladies indeed had lovely faces, many among them had mugs of such extreme angles and proportions that they ceased to be attractive — cheekbones cantilevering so far afield that they almost seemed like face-wings.”

Stevenson’s criticism of the Victoria’s Secret models, in turn, came under criticism. Alexa Tucker, writing at Bustle , objected to Stevenson’s detailed critique of the women.
“Now that’s just rude. Think what you want about the appearance of the Victoria’s Secret models, but that description is unnecessarily harsh. Supermodels or not, that’s a pretty hurtful thing to say.”
Tucker later summed up her thoughts on Stevenson’s entire column.
“I was pretty bummed out when I read his piece, because it just shows how far we have to go when it comes to accepting other people and seeing their best aspects, not their so-called flaws. And people like Seth Stevenson aren’t helping.”
The globally recognized brand has generated a fair amount of news since its 2014 fashion show in London. The Inquisitr previously reported that Gigi Hadid hinted that she might be the latest model to join the ranks of Victoria’s Secret.
