A representative for former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has confirmed to E! News that the singer and onetime Broadway star has given birth to a baby boy in her home state of North Carolina.
Barrino is mom to 10-year-old daughter Zion, and the 27-year-old reality TV star found herself back in the news and in gossip columns when it was reported that her home might be foreclosed upon . Barrino again made headlines in the summer of 2010, when she was implicated in an acrimonious North Carolina divorce amid talk she might run afoul of her state’s alienation of affection laws. (Also known as “home wrecker laws.”) The singer was accused of luring married Antwaun Cook away from his wife Paula , even taunting the spurned woman by phone, allegedly saying:
“He don’t want you. Maybe the next time you get a husband you’ll know how to keep him. That’s why he is here with me.”
Barrino escaped further legal tangles over the alleged affair, but the drama could be why the former AI star was so reluctant to dish to talk show host Wendy Williams in October about the identity of her soon-to-be-born baby. When asked if she still was involved with Cook, Barrino answered:
“I’m really not focusing on that today. My name is all I have and my word is my bond.”
Barrino was tight lipped in announcing the birth of Dallas Xavier Barrino as well- the tot arrived Tuesday, and her rep released this brief statement on behalf of the singer:
“I feel so blessed that my son Dallas Xavier was born healthy, and is a wonderful new addition to our family. I thank all my fans for their well wishes and continued support.”
The baby weighed 7 lbs., 9 ounces.
