If rumors are true Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard and the New Jersey Nets violated league tampering rules on Thursday after holding a meeting that has been confirmed by multiple sources.
According to the rumors Howard met with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and Nets General Manager Billy King during an outing in Miami, Florida.
Under NBA tampering rules the meeting would need to first be approved by the Orlando Magic, however they appear to not have known about the meeting which also included several of Howard’s business associates.
Speaking to ESPN on Friday afternoon Howard denied the rumors, simply stating that there “was no meeting” and “Right now, my plan is to show up to training camp for the Orlando Magic.”
Among those sources is NBA.com which has reported that the Magic may file tampering charges against the Nets and possibly the Houston Rockets.
While the meeting is believed to be the first time Howard has met with the Nets on his own, it’s the second meeting his representatives have held with the team.
According to the rumors Howard setup a deal that would require him to ask Orlando for a trade to New Jersey on Friday.
Only time will tell if a formal complaint is filed, at this time the entire argument relies on hearsay.
