Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani doubled down on his recent inflammatory comments regarding the Michael Brown case. It is the second time in the last week Giuliani has made such comments regarding the case involving the Ferguson, MO teen who was shot and killed in August by a Ferguson police officer.
Yahoo! News reported on Giuliani’s comments while he was a guest on Fox News Sunday .
“I don’t see how this case normally would even have been brought to a grand jury. This is the kind of case—had it not had the racial overtones and the national publicity—where a prosecutor would have come to the conclusion that there is not enough evidence to present to the grand jury.”
The Inquisitr reported recently that Giuliani told NBC’s Meet The Press last week that “the reason for the heavy police presence in the black community” is black-on-black crime.
When the discussion turned to the high number of white police officers in predominately black cities, Giuliani pointed out that New York’s police department spreads out across racial lines. He then veered to the subject of black-on-black crime.
“The fact is that I find it very disappointing that you’re not discussing the fact that 93 percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks… I would like to see the attention paid to that that you are paying to this.”
The city of Ferguson, MO continues to see protests following the announcement that officer Darren Wilson would not face charges for the shooting. Wilson subsequently resigned from the Ferguson Police Department. Fox News reports that this is unlikely to halt the protests .
When word of Wilson’s resignation reached protesters, most reacted with ambivalence. Protestor Rick Campbell told reporters he’d been “protesting out here since August” and didn’t care about Wilson’s decision to step down.
Ferguson resident Victoria Rutherford told Fox she still believed Wilson should have been convicted of a crime.
“I’m upset. I have a 16-year-old son. It could’ve been him. I feel that he was absolutely in the wrong.”
Ferguson continues to feel the after effects of the grand jury’s decision. Protesters continue to fill the streets. Riots and looting have also affected many local residences and businesses.
Hard feelings continue to rankle both sides of the issue. Statements like those of Giuliani do nothing but continue to fan the flames.
