Alexandra Craigle was harassed by an Uber driver via text messages after canceling her scheduled reservation – even after she opened up to him about her cancer diagnosis.

The 25-year-old woman wrote about her cancer treatments after the Uber driver sent her a text stating that she was “not human.”

“Just left cancer treatment, if that helps clear that up. Had to go back to get my scarf to cover my bald head. Thanks though for great customer service.”

In response to Alexandra’s message, the Uber driver stated that she deserved what happened to her and even went as far as making the suggestion for her to see a “head doctor” as well.

New York Daily News reports that Alexandra had just finished a session of radiation treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan when she first made a reservation for an Uber driver to pick her up. However, she claims that she canceled the reservation shortly thereafter and opted to hop in a taxi instead.

As a result of her cancellation, Craigle claims that the Uber driver called her three times, left an irate voice mail message and sent her several text messages .

Text conversation between Uber driver and Alexandra Craigle

Alexandra Craigle has struggled with lymphoma since 2012. Craigle states that the cold weather on the day in question and her physical condition are what convinced her to find a different mode of transportation, because she did not want to have to stand outside and wait for an Uber driver to arrive.

In an interview with Daily News , she also stated that she canceled the pick-up reservation for an Uber driver during the allotted five-minute grace period.

Craigle’s claim is confirmed by what is published about the cancellation policy on the official Uber website .

“If you can cancel within 5 minutes, you won’t be charged. If you tap the cancel button after 5 minutes, we will let you know that a $10 fee will apply if you confirm the cancellation… If you are not at the pickup location or your driver cannot get in touch with ycou, our $10 cancellation fee will still apply.”

Daily News reports that a representative from Uber made an official statement in reference to their zero tolerance policy.

“Uber has a zero tolerance policy for abusive or threatening language on our platform, and as we have done in this instance, we immediately deactivate any driver found in violation of that policy.”

The representative also confirmed via email that the Uber driver who sent the text messages to Alexandra Craigle has been fired.
