Few would deny that one of the biggest problems in United States politics is the prevalence of money and its powerful influence over Congress and the President. Many Americans suspect that corporate funding of political campaigns and bribery play a major part in elections, sometimes leading to corruption and ulterior motives for passing legislation. Typically, Democrats are the first to complain about this injustice but Jon Stewart from The Daily Show was quick to point out this week the innate hypocrisy of the Democratic stance against money in politics. Stewart even threw a few punches at Barack Obama, who is equally guilty of the hypocritical claim.

The Washington Times reported on Jon Stewart’s bold accusations against President Obama and his affiliated party, pointing out that Obama talks a big game against monetary influence on political players but doesn’t follow through with cracking down on the problem. In fact, Stewart implies that Obama himself, and Democratic members of Congress, are equally guilty of influencing lobbyists and taking big-corporation donor checks in exchange for political compliance. Stewart calls the Democrats hypocrites for criticizing Republicans of this when the left wing is also to blame.

The Huffington Post also covered Jon Stewart’s public call-out of Obama’s hypocrisy , including some hilarious fundraising emails that Democratic political candidates sent out begging for money.

“And then of course there are the emails,” Stewart said on Monday’s Democalypse segment. “With a frequency and desperation matched only by a Nigerian prince selling a Groupon deal for boner pills, the Democrats and the emails will not stop trying to make you give them money.”

Jon Stewart describes the hypocrisy of the Democrats and President Obama using an amended version of the Biblical Ten Commandments, implying that for every rule in politics that the Democrats abide by, there’s a special stipulation that allows you to be exempt from it.

“Thou shalt not kill, but if you’re going to …”

What do you think about Jon Stewart’s accusations? Is he right about Obama and the Democrats? Or should Stewart cut the left wing some slack?
