Buffalo Bills cornerback Ron Brooks had to be carted off the field Sunday after suffering a scary looking neck injury, but reports indicate that it may not be as bad as initially feared.

Brooks was injured in the first quarter of Sunday’s game. He was running downfield to cover a punt when Lions safety Jerome Couplin hit him in the lower body, sending Brooks airborne. He landed directly on his helmet and fell to the turf motionless .

Now reports indicate that Brooks may have avoided serious injury. He was taken to a Detroit hospital, where doctors conducted a CT scan that came back negative.

The injury made for a few scary moments during the game. Trainers and emergency response personnel tended to Brooks, who was immobilized on a backboard.

Players from both teams gathered to watch as crews worked on Brooks. But as the cornerback was being wheeled off the field, he raised his hand slightly to wave, showing that he had not been paralyzed.

The Buffalo Bills would go on to win the game in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 14-0 deficit and winning on a 58-yard field goal with just seconds left on the clock. An underdog coming into the game, the Bills moved to 3-2 and will hold at least a share of the lead in the AFC East.

Brooks was drafted by the Bills in the fourth round in 2012, and has been a backup in the defensive backfield but a key contributor on special teams, notching six tackles this year.

The Buffalo Bills are expected to release another update on the injury to Ron Brooks when more tests come back on Monday.
