The NFL rumors aren’t looking good for Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen.

The embattled coach, who has seen his team drop to 0-4 on the season, may be the first NFL coach this season to lose his job. On Sunday night, Associated Press reporter Terry Collins tweeted that the Raiders were set to fire Allen, with an official announcement likely coming on Tuesday.

The report spread quickly, but Collins later deleted the post and stated that the Dennis Allen rumor was yet to be confirmed.

But Collins has not been alone in noting trouble for the Oakland Raiders head coach. CBS Sports writer Jason LaCanfora reported that Allen was on the hot seat, and could lose his job if the Raiders fell on Sunday to the Miami Dolphins.

The Raiders didn’t just lose to the Dolphins — they looked completely flat, losing 38-14 as Miami dominated in just about every aspect of the game.

Afterward, Dennis Allen acknowledged that the game was a complete blowout .

“Obviously, we did not play well,” Allen said. “We turned the ball over; we did not stop them on defense. We gave up too many explosive plays.”

LaCanfora noted that the Oakland Raiders could already have their contingency plan ready if Dennis Allen is fired.

“ Raiders owner Mark Davis, who has considered firing his coach and general manager several times in recent years, has continued to discuss their status with confidants inside and out of the organization following the team’s poor start, according to league sources, with second-year offensive coordinator Greg Olson a strong candidate to take over as interim head coach.”

Olson could also play a key role in the development of rookie quarterback Derek Carr, making him a likely candidate to fill in if Allen is fired.

Timing could also lend some credence to this NFL rumor. The Oakland Raiders are now headed to their bye week after completing one quarter of the season, creating a perfect opportunity to fire Dennis Allen and give the new coach some cushion to prepare for the next game.
