In a shocking case of parent negligence, a 5-year-old boy who was found inside a car next to a half-pound bag of cocaine has now tested positive for the drug, ABC News explains.

According to the report, the child found in the car is the son of 31-year-old Marco Cuevas and his 29-year-old wife Sandy Cuevas. The couple were arrested in Moorpark, California, following an investigation by the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit. The couple were allegedly running a drug deal, and police officers attached to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office witnessed him allegedly selling cocaine.

At the time of his arrest, the police found several bags of cocaine with Marco and recovered the half-pound bag inside his car where the child was also sitting. Having found the child next to the bag of cocaine, authorities decided to test the child. It was later revealed that the small boy had traces of cocaine in his body.

The arrest of Marco happened after police officials from the area started investigating a sharp increase in the usage of cocaine in the region, reports the Los Angeles Times . They were behind the trail of Cuevas since July this year. Following his arrest, the police raided the residence of the Cuevas’ home, where officials allegedly found “hundreds of prescription pills, several pounds of marijuana, $75,000 in cash, 16 guns, and nearly 3,000 rounds of ammunition.” Officials added that the family is also suspected of being involved in illegal gun sales.

According to Capt. Don Aguilar of the Venture County Sherriff’s Office, there were other children living inside the Cuevas’ home when they raided the property. Those children too have been sent in to protective custody. Officials are still investigating the relationship of the children to the Cuevas’. Meanwhile, the 5-year-old child who tested positive for cocaine was subsequently released from the hospital. Police officials later clarified that the drug test was done on the boy for safety concerns since the child was found in close proximity to a bag of cocaine.

The father of the child now faces multiple charges, including possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, child endangerment, and multiple weapons violations. He is currently in jail with his bail amount set at $1 million. The mother, Sandy Cuevas, is also facing several other charges, including possession for sale of cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine, and child endangerment.

This is not the first time The Inquisitr has reported about such parents from hell who knowingly expose their children to several risks — this time, cocaine.
