Russian researchers hunting for the yeti claim they have found “indisputable proof” that the creature really is out there.
Said proof includes a few strands of hair, some tracks in the snow, and the yeti’s “bed”. Which all sounds fairly disputable to me, but there you go.
This latest search for the yeti was part of a “yeti conference.” The team located some gray hairs in a Russian cave in the Kemerovo region in western Siberia. Here’s what one spokesperson for the Kemerovo region said:
“During the expedition to the Azasskaya cave, conference participants gathered indisputable proof that the Shoria mountains are inhabited by the ‘Snow Man.’ They found his footprints, his supposed bed, and various markers with which the yeti uses to denote his territory.”
The yeti has long been shrouded in mystery, with none of the sightings so far leading to serious evidence. The beast, a half-ape/half-human creature, is purported to weight around 300 pounds, has a muscular body covered with reddish-brown hair, and stands between six and seven feet tall.
We don’t know whether this latest ‘evidence’ will be the real deal, but there are definitely doubters. It’s been suggested that this is nothing more than a publicity stunt, a ruse to lure people to the region.
And tourists have appeared, with hundreds of people visitng the Azasskya cave where the clues were found. The story’s profile has been raised further by former Russian heavyweight boxer Nikolai Valuyev – a man of Yeti-esque proportions himself – touring the cave to “search” for the yeti. Then, er, wrestle it, I guess?
