Rapper Snoop Dogg will soon be coming to a TV near you. The rapper announced on Thursday that he has sold a family comedy to NBC . The show will be produced by Warning Bros. and will likely debut during the fall of 2012.
According to The Wrap :
“The as-yet-untitled project is described as a “multi-camera family comedy,” with Don Reo — whose credits include ‘Two and a Half Men,’ ‘Everybody Hates Chris,’ and “‘Til Death’ — executive-producing and writing. Frequent Snoop collaborator Ted Chung is also producing.”
It’s not the first time Snoop Dogg has had a run-in with TV, his show Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood which chronicled his family life with wife Shante and their three children ran for two seasons on cable station E!.
It’s also not the first time Don Reo and Snoop Dogg have worked together, the two men first met on the set of the Fox sitcom Brothers where Snoop Dogg had a guest arc which was written by Reo.
Further details about the show have not yet been revealed and Snoop Dogg’s exact role with the sitcom is also being kept under wraps.
One thing is for certain, rappers are either a hit or miss for NBC, on the one hand there was the hugely successful Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring then rapper Will Smith and then there was an awful pilot show in 2001 starring “Thong Song” star Sisqo and comedy icon Bob Newhart.
Given his crossover appeal and ability to strike a “real guy” feel with audiences there’s a chance NBC could be eyeing a hit.
