Barbra Streisand isn’t usually one for on-air promotions, but when she does, she makes it big. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon cleared the entire schedule for the Streisand appearance, making her the one and only guest for that evening. The singer and actress has rarely conducted interviews, making her upcoming appearance so noteworthy. The 72-year-old Streisand will be promoting her album Partners .

Back in 1963, Barbra Streisand appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and promoted her debut record. At the time, Streisand was still considered a “kook” for the clothes she wore and her half-joking conversations with concert audiences between songs.

The outlandish style was part of the key to Streisand’s success, a logic that was captured perfectly in her zinger, “I scare you, don’t I? I’m so far out, I’m in.”

Soon after the 1963 Tonight Show appearance, Streisand was a household name. She has gone on to sell 71.5 million albums in the U.S. and 245 million records worldwide. She has won the Grammy multiple times and has had 32 albums make it into the top ten since 1963. Since then she’s become relatively aloof with TV appearances, representative Ken Sunshine said to the Daily News,

“Unlike most performers promoting their product, Barbra has done precious few interviews over the years. It seems like she hasn’t had a bad run. Maybe less is more?”

Now the question is, can Jimmy Fallon accommodate Streisand and all of her Idiosyncrasies?

When appearing on Oprah Winfrey’s show , Streisand had to unseat Oprah during the interview so she could sit stage-left and Oprah could sit stage-right. A huge break from Oprah’s typical interview set protocol. The reason? Streisand famously prefers the left side of her face over the right.

Whether Fallon is ready for any curve-ball the singer can throw is unclear.

Barbra Streisand is expected to fill a large portion of the hour-long show, doing both an interview and a live performance. Her album Partners is exactly what it sounds like, a series of duets between Streisand and many of the most famous male names in the music industry, including Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Blake Shelton, Babyface, Billy Joel, Blake Shelton, Lionel Richie, Andrea Bocelli, Jason Gould, John Legend, Josh Groban, and Elvis Presley.

Streisand also released the cover art for the new album on Instagram :

Barbra Streisand’s appearance on the The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon will be on September 15 , the day before Partners is released.
