It appears that reality television star Kim Kardashian is not one to easily forgive and forget. Kardashian was recently interviewed by GQ Magazine — after she was named GQ’s “Woman of the Year” — where she slammed President Obama for calling her husband, Kanye West, a jackass.
Back in 2009, President Obama was recorded saying that he thought Kanye West was a jackass for interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMAs. The president was speaking candidly with his staff prior to a CNN interview when he made the statement. However, the president did not realize that the conversation was being recorded. This wasn’t the only time President Obama was recorded calling Kanye a jackass. In fact, in a 2012 interview with The Atlantic , the president again calls Kanye a jackass, but this time a talented jackass. In the interview, Obama is asked if he prefers Jay Z or Kanye. Obama responds that he prefers Jay to Kanye, but goes on to say Kanye is smart and talented. This led the interviewer to bring up the 2009 jackass comment.
President Obama did not shy away, but instead said, “He is a jackass. But he’s talented.”
The Mirror reports that the most recent jackass incident was two years ago, but that didn’t stop Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, from sticking up for him in her GQ interview.
Kim brought up the incident saying, “I don’t think it’s very appropriate for the President of the United States to be commenting on pop culture … I mean, calling people ‘jackass?’ I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion – even him. I was just like, ‘Why is he even commenting on this?’”
However, Kim did go on to say that she was happy that the president even knew who she was and was discussing whether his kids watched the show in a previous interview.
“Okay, sure, just the fact that the President of the United States even knows who I am, and is talking about whether his kids watch our show is pretty cool.”
The Kardashians never shy away from controversy, so it really isn’t surprising that Kim would bring up President Obama’s comment in her interview. In fact, at North West’s first birthday this year, Kim’s sister Khloe Kardashian made waves when she was called insensitive for her Native American headpiece.
