The U.S. government is not a democracy, according to researchers at Princeton. While the United States of America were founded on a constitution which declares all men are created equal, it is clear that our laws have changed enough to literally redefine how the country is run.
It used to be that this country was run by the people, but it seems that is no longer the case.
Researchers at Princeton determined that the government has become an oligarchy (or a Corporatocracy). This means that a few among the privileged and wealthy are literally controlling everything. Congress might not have as much power as we previously thought.
They claim America, or the North American nation which routinely calls itself such, is actually controlled by well-placed people positioned in big banks and the military. Money is literally power, and though the U.S. government is in serious debt, the big banks and the military are still free to put money wherever they like.
This is why even with such a shattered economy, the military can still afford to send weapons and supplies to our allies overseas, and yet can’t pay our own soldiers enough to make them feel appreciated.
Princeton researcher Martin Gilens and Northwestern researcher Benjamin I. Page arrived at this conclusion after compiling data from nearly 2,000 different policy initiatives between 1981 and 2002. They discovered that while the American people strongly support things like mandatory background checks on gun sales and the elimination of greenhouse gases, Congress has apparently done nothing about them.
The researchers’ numbers show that the power of the average U.S. citizen to change anything about the way the nation is handled is so minuscule that your opinion literally doesn’t matter.
Does this mean that voting is a big lie? That is very possible. If the big banks or military want a particular candidate in office, they could probably throw money in the right direction and turn a 10 percent approval rating into a nearly landslide victory.

This is a disturbing discovery indeed, and could mean that the U.S. government is more corrupt than we thought.
Princeton researchers summed up their findings in the following statement.
“The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.”
It seems that, according to those Princeton researchers, the United States isn’t “for the people, by the people” anymore.
