The endoscopy clinic where Joan Rivers received her throat procedure on August 28 has come under scrutiny by the New York State Health Department. Now sources close to the family are saying that Melissa Rivers believes Yorkville Endoscopy had something to do with the death of her mother as well.
Radar Online reports that Melissa Rivers believes here mother could have been saved if the procedure had been done in the hospital and not at an outpatient clinic. Joan Rivers, 81, was scheduled for the hour long procedure, two hours of recovery, and then would have been sent home. Other inside sources according to the Times of India , said Joan was medically cleared for the surgery. She was feeling well, and she had performed a standup show the night before.
However, according to Melissa Rivers, her mother’s physical condition before the procedure only reinforces the likelihood that Joan Rivers would have survived the cardiac arrest that ultimately killed her if the surgery had taken place in a hospital.
It reportedly only took ten minutes from the time Joan suffered a cardiac arrest at Yorkville Endoscopy to get her to Mount Sinai Hospital, but those ten minutes were critical.
Once at Mount Sinai, Rivers was placed into a medically-induced coma by doctors until they could be “comfortable” with her condition. On Sunday, August 31, it was announced that doctors would begin to slowly pull Joan out of her coma, a process that wouldn’t be complete until the following Tuesday.
Joan Rivers was moved out of the ICU and into a private room on Wednesday. It’s unclear whether or not the iconic comedienne ever regained consciousness. On Thursday, September 4, one week after she went to have her throat procedure performed at Yorkville Endoscopy, Joan Rivers died at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
The funeral for Joan Rivers was held yesterday at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. Howard Stern, Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Jessica Parker, Donald Trump, Kelly and Ozzy Osbourne and many others were on hand to bid farewell to the legendary comedian and television star.
Howard Stern delivered one of the eulogies at the star-studded funeral. At one point, he reportedly said that he hoped Joan was “up in heaven chasing Johnny Carson around with a baseball bat. ”
Meanwhile, the New York State Medical Examiner’s Office admitted that they were unable to determine the exact cause of death as a result of Joan Rivers’ autopsy. An office official said that further tests needed to be done.
