Juno screenplay writer Diablo Cody is preparing to make her directorial debut and Mandate Pictures has announced that the film will star British comedian Russell Brand and Footloose star Julianne Hough.
At this time the Mason Novick produced film is untitled and Cody is expected to executive produce alongside Nathan Kahane.
According to Deadline.com :
Production starts in the spring and Lionsgate is selling international rights at AFM.
In the movie Hough will play a sheltered young woman who loses her faith after a plane crash and then participates in all of the decadence Las Vegas has to offer. When in Sin City Hough’s character meets an unlikely friend in Russell Brand who helps her rediscover herself.
Mandate Pictures also recently worked with Cody on Young Adult a movie she wrote and which was directed by Jason Reitman. Young Adult will reach theaters this December.
Does the new Diablo Cody movie seem interesting to you? Given Brand’s brand of humor it will be interesting to see if the movie leans more towards drama or comedy.
