Up and coming pop singer Austin Mahone recently had the opportunity to meet his biggest competition, the guys of One Direction. While One Direction may be the hottest band in pop music right now, Austin Mahone is on the rise. But that doesn’t mean there’s any bad blood between any of the boys. In fact, Austin Mahone said that meeting One Direction was “pretty cool.”
According to Sugarscape , Austin got to meet Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson at the MTV Video Music Awards that aired on August 24. Not only did the teen heartthrobs hit it off, Niall Horan apparently became completely enamored with Austin Mahone’s shoes. Austin was wearing a pair of Nike high tops, and the One Direction pretty-boy couldn’t keep his eyes off them.
“Last VMAs I performed on the pre-show,” Austin Mahone said about the meeting. “I was back and getting ready for my performance and One Direction walks in. I see Niall and he saw my shoes and he was like, ‘Oh man, those are the sickest shoes I have ever seen.’ And he was obsessed with my shoes and couldn’t stop looking at them, so I thought that was pretty cool.”
Fans must be pretty excited that Austin Mahone and One Direction are getting along, especially after last years VMAs resulted in some tension on Twitter between the musicians. Hollywood Life reported on Harry Styles’ tweet that Iggy Azalea should have won the Artist to Watch award that went to Austin Mahone. Austin responded by tweeting: “Wow just found out what @Harry_Syles said!! #imstilladirectioner.”
Hollywood Life also reported on a recent interview with Austin Mahone, in which he revealed his secret celebrity crush . When asked who he was crushing on at the moment, Austin replied “Rihanna of course!”

Austin Mahone recently spoke about the constant comparisons to Justin Bieber, which you can read about here .
