Lana Del Rey has recently admitted she doesn’t feel any responsibility to put meaningful or positive messages in her lyrics.
According to Contact Music , Del Rey only writes her music for herself , without feeling any obligation to her what her fans want to hear. Lana claims none of her songs are written for commercial success. Instead, Lana writes “whatever” she wants.
Lana Del Rey spoke to the Sunday Times magazine about her writing process:
”It’s not meant to be popular,” said Lana. “It’s not pop music. The only thing I have to do is whatever I want, and I want to write whatever I want. I just hope people don’t ask me about it. So I don’t feel a responsibility at all. I mean, I just don’t. I feel responsible in other ways, community wise, to be a good citizen, abide by the law.”
Del Rey went on to explain that she writes very selfishly, never worrying about what lyrics go into her songs or how they could be interpreted by fans.
“I just don’t want [the public] to hear it at all,” said Del Rey. “I’m very selfish. I make everything for me, kind of. I mean, every little thing, down to the guitar and the drums. It’s just for me. I want to hear it, I want to drive to it, I want to swim in the ocean to it. I want to think about it, and then I want to write something new after it. You know? It’s just… I don’t want them to hear it and think about it. It’s none of their business.”
Many fans and critics have noticed that Lana Del Rey’s songs often pertain to dark issues such as depression in songs like “Sad Girl,” as well as abusive relationships. This has left many fans wondering if Lana Del Rey has any serious issues that she hasn’t publicly spoken about.

But Lana Del Rey doesn’t completely abandon her fans when creating music. According to a recent report by The Inquisitr , Del Rey claims her fans give her the confidence to do her job. Lana was recently spotted in public in surprisingly casual clothes, and even more recently caught in public without any makeup on.
