Sofia Vergara, the 39-year-old star of ABC’s Modern Family, stunned Emmy watchers last night in her attention grabbing Vera Wang dress on the red carpet and during the event.
Vergara- who broke into the US market while in her early 30’s and moved to the States from her native Colombia- spoke to Billy Bush before the festivities began, joking that she felt like a “drag queen” in her Emmy regalia. The actress- who played a transsexual in the film Grilled back in 2006- giggled with Bush about her stunning Emmy look:
“I kind of look a little bit [that way]… From far away you don’t know, ‘Is that a?’”
Vergara continued:
“Transvestites are an exaggeration [of] femininity and an exaggeration of curves… That’s how I feel sometimes next to other women. I have everything and then [I’m also] a little bit exaggerated.”
The pair briefly discussed Vergara’s recent interview with gay publication The Advocate , then joked about shaving- Vergara denied shaving her face, but did insinuate she may shave her chest. Later in the evening, Vergara’s hit show Modern Family scored five Emmys in total, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series.
In her interview in The Advocate, Vergara was asked about other celebrities she admires and discussed “girl crushes.” Vergara admitted:
“I have many, but I love Halle Berry… She’s perfection. Every time I see her, I want to give her a standing ovation because she’s so flawless.”
Vergara also briefly addressed the controversy that erupted after last year’s ceremony when co-star Ed Lynch commented on Jane Lynch’s win over Vergara. She confirmed she and Lynch were great friends and enjoy one another’s company.
