Amy Winehouse’s memory will be honored with an erected statue that will commemorate the late singer’s music. As reported by the Associated Press, Winehouse’s statue will be set in a London neighborhood, which was at the center for where she lived and worked.

Winehouse’s family made the announcement and said that the unveiling will happen in Camden Town. The date, September 14, which is the day of the tribute is significant because it would have been Amy’s 31st birthday.

Bronze in color, the Winehouse statue was created by Scott Eaton , and will be a main attraction in the middle of Camden’s busy market. The market itself draws millions of tourists for its food and culture, but now people will have a new reason to stop and marvel.

Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, who has been the most open about Amy’s demons before and after her tragic passing, said that the statue was supposed to be nearby Roundhouse’s concert hall, but that area wasn’t accessible enough for fans.

“Now Amy will oversee the comings and goings of her home town forever.”

Some fans are already excited to visit the statue.

After many years of struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, the talented Grammy winning artist passed away in her Camden home due to alcohol intoxication back in July of 2011. At the time of her death she was only 27-years-old.

Since her death there has been many tributes honoring Winehouse’s contribution to the music scene. Back in July of 2013 The London Museum had an exhibition that was curated by Amy’s brother Alex, which put Amy’s personal tokens on display.

Shortly after her death the Amy Winehouse Foundation was founded by her father Mitch in hopes to steer young adults in a positive direction using music therapy and music education to “prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse.”

According to the Amy Winehouse Foundation:

“We aim to support, inform and inspire vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to help them reach their full potential.”

By doing this the Amy Winehouse Foundation offers grants and scholarships to students who come from disadvantage families.
