Neil Patrick Harris recently spoke about his relationship with David Burtka and what really turns Harris on in their relationship.
In the September issue of Glamour , Neil Patrick Harris said that when the novelty of a relationship ends, couples need to find other things that will add to the relationship and make the bond stronger.
“Honeymoon phases end. They just do,” said Harris. “I think you have to find new elements that turn you on, and not only sexually.”
Those elements came in the form of his two children with Burtka, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace. The twins were born via surrogate in 2010, according to UPI .
“Having kids was one of those great moments for me,” Neil Patrick Harris gushed. “Watching David become another level of person, mastering this other domain, made me look at him with a whole other set of appreciative eyes. That made me re-fall in love with him.”
Harris and Burtka have been together since 2004 , according to WebProNews . According to Neil, the reality of relationships is that people do tend to fall out of love with each other and with life in general. However, Neil is committed to keeping his spark going with David.
“You fall out of love with your house. You fall out of love with your job. You just have to figure out ways to keep [the love] alive,” Neil Patrick Harris admitted.
While the rumors have swirled about Harris and Burtka’s relationship decline over a possible future wedding date and even cheating allegations, the couple seem to be fine as they live their lives out in New York.
“We’ve never had a wedding date, just engaged (Prop 8 and all),” Neil once tweeted after the National Enquirer published an article that the couple had split. “We’re on a cruise as I write. He’s rad. All good.”
When the couple lived in Los Angeles, rumors flew that David was tired of other men throwing themselves at Neil, so he went out and had a few flings on his own. Their move to New York caused some to speculate that the couple was trying to sort things out and start over again.
There may even be more plans to have more children in the future, according to an interview David Burtka did with Oprah’s Next Chapter in 2012.
“I want a ton of kids. I was told you’re not really a family until your kids outnumber you.”
It seems as though Neil Patrick Harris has plenty to look forward to if seeing David Burtka as a father turns him on and helps to keep the relationship going strong.
