A 12-year-old boy in British Columbia, Canada was watching TV at 2 am when he heard his mom calling for him, it turns out she was giving birth and wasn’t expecting such a fast delivery, thankfully her son jumped into action and delivered the baby.
According to the boy’s mom the birth was a complete surprise since:
“I didn’t go through any of the preliminary labor pains,” while she also told the Times Colonist, “He put his hands on his hips and said, ‘Mom, this is not going to be an at-home baby.’”
As her son saw the baby’s head emerge Gaelan Edwards says he “grabbed the baby by the shoulders, with the head on his wrist, and eased him out.”
After delivering the baby he grabbed scissors and a clamp used for plastic bags and cut the cord. When asked why he acted he said it was “just like by instinct,” and revealed that his mom’s medical books helped, according to Gaelan, “It was over the due date, so I’m like, ‘Oh, whatever, I’ll start reading these books,” while adding, “I’m surprised that I actually did it.”
So there you have it, the next time your OB/GYN alerts you about all of the thousands of dangers associated with giving birth you should direct him to the future Dr. Gaelan or maybe just his mom’s medical books which seemed to have prepared the boy quite well for delivering his first baby without the need for any type of professional supervision or practice.
