You may know La La Vasquez from her veejaying work or hosting on shows like Flavor of Love and For The Love of Ray Jay – or for her marriage to basketball star Carmelo Anthony.
Vasquez- who was tweeting up a storm prior to the much-ballyhooed Kardashian nuptials this weekend- says she’s ready to move up from the “of Love” genre of shows and into acting. The veejay-turned-reality-show host says she’s “going to make it in that space,” referring to acting, and is already working on a film version of the wildly successful Steve Harvey book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man .
Vasquez says that despite her extensive resume in Hollywood, it’s difficult to get casting directors and agents to take her seriously when it comes to getting roles:
“It’s the most challenging thing I have to do. People just want to see things one way. When I go to these auditions, I feel like I have to prove myself 10 times over… acting is a challenge.”
“I have to break all these barriers. When you win a role, like the Steve Harvey role, it’s so satisfying. I teared up, and that’s not usually me.”
Vasquez hasn’t stepped out of the VH1-couples genre entirely- her show La La’s Full Court Life premieres tonight at 9 on the network, and profiles her marriage to Anthony and their daily trials and tribulations. But it’s not the only thing on Vasquez’s plate- she plans to star in an Off Broadway production of Love, Loss and What I Wore beginning October 5th.
Below is Vasquez’s newest project- a “Funny or Die” video in which she stages a feminist rally.
