Is a music rivalry brewing between Drake and Macklemore ? If there is, then we know where it heated up — at the ESPY Awards.

Drake hosted the awards, and during the ceremony, he took Macklemore to task for his Grammy wins. Back when the pop/rap artist won his Grammy awards, everyone was angered that he took home the award for Best Rap Album, when other “more authentic” acts like Kendrick Lamar were left in the dark wondering what went wrong.

After the controversy, Macklemore revealed on Instagram that he texted an apology to Kendrick Lamar, which only seemed to fuel the controversy surrounding the popular music act and his Grammy win.

Drake picked up where the controversy left off on Wednesday night during a segment called “Honorable Mentions/Side Piece.” In an original song, Drake dissed Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for their multiple Grammy wins. During his song, he featured a photo of Macklemore on screen as he sang the lines:

“Real talent doesn’t always win championships, like real music doesn’t always win Grammys.”

Before you think Drake is standing up for Kendrick Lamar, think again as the singer-actor told Rolling Stone that he was pretty miffed that people were only talking about Kendrick Lamar’s loss at the Grammys as far as Macklemore’s win was concerned.

“To name just Kendrick? That sh-t made me feel funny. No, in that case, you robbed everybody. We all need text messages!”

As for Macklemore’s text message, Drake said it “felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt?”

“I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music.”

As far as Drake is concerned, Macklemore simply won because his message in “Same Love” was something that appealed to more people in the genre.

“This is how the world works: He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick. Whether people wanna say it’s racial, or whether it’s just the fact that he tapped into something we can’t tap into. That’s just how the cards fall. Own your s–t.”
