New York Police Department to get down with this new fangled social media thing

You know there might be something to this whole social media thing; or at least that’s what New York’s police department seems to think.

Don’t think that they are going to get all buddy buddy with you on Twitter or Facebook though because this new social media strategy from the NYPD is all about catching those evil kids who don’t know enough to keep their mouths shut when on Twitter or Facebook.

The purpose of the new unit is mine the social networks for youths ( I so want to be able to say that with the voice of Joe Pesci) who for the lack of any real intelligence decide to brag about their wrong-doing.

Newly named Assistant Commissioner Kevin O’Connor, one of the department’s online and gang gurus, has been put in charge of the new juvenile justice unit. He and his staff will mine social media, looking for info about troublesome house parties, gang showdowns and other potential mayhem, sources said.

And apparently high on their list is to keep track of all those crime inducing rave parties.
