A U.S. postal worker in Birmingham, Ala., apparently created a new definition of special delivery or non- priority mail.

The worker was caught on video (see embed below) allegedly tossing two packages from a mail delivery van down into a ravine or roadside embankment in a wooded area.

Perhaps to the relief of the individuals and businesses on this route, a special agent with a USPS investigative unit told AL.com on July 3 that the unnamed postal worker has already quit. “As with any ongoing [Office of Inspector General] investigation, I can’t comment on specifics. However, I can confirm the individual in this situation has resigned from the Postal Service as of this afternoon,” he said. The agent wouldn’t comment as to whether any charges would be filed in connection with this incident.

The video of the postal worker allegedly going postal on packages has garnered about 500,000 hits on YouTube so far.

Postal authorities apparently issued the following statement about the incident which appears under the original AL.com story:

The Postal Service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, the actions of any employee who mishandles mail or packages. A recent video obtained by the Postal Service appears to show a Postal Service employee discarding mail from his or her postal vehicle. If this video is accurate, then the behavior on the part of the employee shown in the video is not only unacceptable to the Postal Service, it threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold. The USPS Inspector General has been notified and is conducting a full investigation of this incident. They will provide their findings and recommendations to the Postal Service and the United States Attorney’s Office for any further action.”

Back in May, a video captured a postal service employee carelessly tossing packages into the back of a mail delivery truck.

While an employee who apparently throws packages into the woods is the exception, in general, are you satisfied with the service provided by the U.S. Post Office?
