Jeremy Meeks, the felon who became a viral sensation when apparently the entire internet decided his was the sexiest mug shot to ever be snapped, was charged yesterday with possession of a gun, which, as a felon, he isn’t allowed to have. He’s made headlines for being a hot guy who has landed a modeling contract despite being a convicted felon, with people clucking and shaking their heads at the injustice of good things happening to bad folks, but it turns out that it’s simply not true.
It’s been reported for weeks that Meeks was offered a modeling contract after his mug shot went viral.
However, Bullett Media reports that they have contacted the agent named in media stories, and she has assured them that there is no contract in the works for Jeremy Meeks. In fact, they point out, a modeling contract for a guy facing nearly a dozen charges, as Meeks is, wouldn’t be likely to be very lucrative.
Jeremy Meeks is continuing to create a buzz, though, and seems to recognize the notoriety his mug shot has gotten him. According to TMZ , he doesn’t want to be photographed at all if he can’t dress nicely , and has petitioned the judge to allow Meeks to wear his own clothing, rather than prison clothing, for his trial date. Turned down on that count, Jeremy asked next to ban all cameras and video equipment from the courtroom.
That petition was filed yesterday, and there’s no word yet on whether the judge will grant Meeks his request and protect him from being photographed in an orange jumpsuit.
A lawyer for Meeks said that the convict has become “enshrined in pop culture,” and that to be seen dressed other than in the height of fashion will negatively prejudice the jury against Meeks in a way that appearing in a mug shot doesn’t seem to have done.
According to the Kansas City Star , Meeks is being held on $1 million bond, and already has convictions connected to acts as a gang member and will be facing many more charges, including what is being called “street terrorism.”
Bullet Media did learn that Jeremy Meeks has an agent (who wouldn’t give her last name) and who confirmed that there’s no modeling deal with the agency originally named, but named another, claiming to be in negotiation with them. When contacted, that agency denied any connection with the felon as well, and any desire for one.
